Online Computer Science Degree: Career Outlook

It doesn’t take a degree to know that computer science is a field that’s worth looking into. More of our lives revolve around computer technology than ever before, and that’s not a trend that’s going to slow down–as a matter of fact, it’s speeding up. But does that necessarily translate into lots of career opportunities for people who have computer science degrees? Should you be looking into an online computer science degree?

For Entry Level Jobs, You Can’t Beat an Online Computer Science Degree

If you’re just starting out, getting your degree in computer science can be a great choice. Median salaries over $50,000 a year for new grads, and at least relative to the rest of the job market, there are plenty of jobs for those with computer science degrees.
If you’ve been working in the computer science field for a while, now, though, the outlook is a little less optimistic. How come? Does it mean that a computer science degree isn’t a good investment in the long run? Not necessarily.

If You Already Work in IT but Don’t Have a Degree-Now’s the Time to Get One

An online computer science degree might be a good idea even if you already have a job in IT, and a pretty good one. As companies downsize due to the economy, watchers have noticed an interesting trend in IT-instead of freezing hiring, they’re letting go of older workers, and continuing to hire new grads.
Why? Because technology is evolving so quickly that hands-on experience can’t keep up with new innovations. If you have been in IT for five or ten years, you might be great at what you know how to do-but are you up to date? If not, an online computer science degree is the answer.
